Airwareness VR: put your room’s airflow on the map

Bring measured vent airflow, AR room geometry and live CO₂ readings together to explore ventilation and purifier placement with Airwareness VR.

Airwareness desktop preview showing a sample room and purifier placement for exploring indoor airflow.

Airwareness VR turns the room around you into an interactive air experiment. I’m adding it to MemeLab so you can measure a vent, place it in AR, and watch the model respond as you change the setup.

Give each vent a measurement

Start with an affordable anemometer at an inlet or exhaust outlet. Draw a rectangle over the opening, enter its free opening dimensions and average air speed perpendicular to it, then set how often it runs. Airwareness estimates the airflow and its contribution to air changes per hour (ACH).

Use the opening’s free area when measuring a grille. A recirculating HVAC outlet also needs separate treatment: its airflow does not all count as fresh outdoor air.

Work inside the room

In AR, review the captured floor footprint and room height, then place openings and purifiers against the space around you. Edit a unit where it sits. The model updates as you change airflow, operating time or purifier placement, so you can compare arrangements while standing in the room.

Captured geometry informs ventilation volume; check the entered height if no ceiling was detected. The particle display remains a simplified airflow model.

Let CO₂ inform the next adjustment

An Aranet4 can supply live CO₂ readings at its measurement interval. With the actual people count and an outdoor baseline, calibration uses a sufficiently informative trace to estimate total outdoor exchange and suggest a leakage adjustment. Apply that estimate to update the simulation.

The public app supports manual readings and direct Bluetooth where the browser allows it. Downloading stored Aranet history requires the separate setup connected through a computer. CO₂ helps estimate ventilation; it does not measure a purifier’s particle removal.

Open Airwareness VR, map a vent, and try a different purifier position. Bring the measurements into the experiment.
